When it comes to innovative dining events La Camera Southgate is well known for La Camera Mondays . People flock from all over Melbourne to our entertaining theme nights that include Cooking Classes, Live Music, Opera Nights, Italian Yum Cha, Free Wine Tasting and Italian Regional Cooking nights. The events are run on the last Monday of every month, excluding long weekends.
Our first event 11 years ago was an Opera theme which was introduced by our resident tenor, Lino Del Giudice. This night has flourished over the years and we include themes such as The Three Tenors, Opera Challenge, Duet Night and so on.
The next event that struck a cord for local Southbank and CBD diners was our Jazz and Shiraz Night. What do you get when you combine a free wine tasting night, sumptuous Italian fare, some cool, relaxing jazz by the one and only Clinton Fry, an ideal location and an ambiance unrivaled on a Monday night? One hell of a good night to remember!
In 2010, our most innovative night, Italian Yum Cha was introduced to the La Camera Mondays calendar. A great way to taste many of the dishes on the La Camera menu in a very unique way. Just like Chinese Yum Cha, but with Italian food; antipasti, calamari, arancini, gnocchi fritti, pasta, risotto, pizza…trolleys and bamboo baskets included.
In 2016 we added some cooking classes to La Camera Mondays. This night was originally was inspired by mum who ran a “Learn to make gnocchi” night a few years back. This year we gave a way a few trade secrets including our famous pizza and Tiramisu recipe.
This year we also added a Neapolitan musical theme night where the patrons became part of the show. Musical equipment was spread out on tables and as our fabulous trio, Bella Ciao, played some catchy Italian tunes, all patrons joined in on the fun. It was a spectacular night. Take a peek…
Neapolitan Night with “Bella Ciao”
As I say to many first time Monday night diners, “If you come to one night, be prepared to come back for more”.
Stay tuned for our 2017 calendar by years end.
